We just returned from a wonderful 5 night stay at Villa Nilaya. Since the property is fairly new, we weren’t certain what to expect. The overall experience with the property and staff was even better than we had hoped.
The villa is lovely and more spacious than it appears in the photos. The layout of bedrooms and bathrooms was just right for our party of one couple and two singles, with plenty of common areas to lounge around in. The deck overlooking the ocean was perfect for taking in the sunset after a swim in the pool.
Service was excellent all around – delicious food, relaxing massages, great suggestions for sightseeing and other activities. Anna was very helpful in arranging the booking and answering all of my questions via email before we arrived. Airport pickup by Made was efficient (and he very graciously in accommodated our request for a stop at Carrefour en route from the airport). We also made use of his local driving services to nearby beaches and other sites – bit of an extra cost but well worth it.
The location in East Bali can’t be beat if you are looking for a quieter escape away from the crowds, but still with some of the best diving and snorkeling in the region right nearby. Our only regret was a trip wasn’t long enough to allow more time to explore. It is easy to just spend your days relaxing on site.
A few small things to note – nicely scented local soaps are provided in the bathrooms, but you supply or locally purchase your own shampoo and other toiletries, plug adapters, etc. Bug repellent is good to have overall in East Bali, there is netting over the beds but a few critters are typical in exchange for pesticides and crowds you’d get at a big resort. The beds and pillows tend to be more firm (as is the case throughout SE asia). The kitchen is set up mostly for the staff to cook for you, rather than for self-service, though there is a very useful mini-fridge to store your own items.
We highly recommend a stay at Villay Nilaya!
